The story is set on Indian stockbroker Harshad Mehta’s life in 10 episodes where how Harshad a man from a simple but modest family from Rajkot, Gujarat now living in Mumbai is facing hardships during 1979 where he lives in a Chawl (small housing) in Mumbai’s Kandivali and for work he did all types of odd jobs. He has a simple family with his wife, brother, mother and father he was still not happy as he wanted to just escape from the poverty and make a name for himself. So he plays a risky game by entering into stock market if India BSE Dalal Street, Mumbai where he starts working as a Jober who buys and sells shares for a broker where he learns about how the stock market works. Slowly and gradually he learns and with his analytical mind at play he starts playing the game by going to any means to earn profit even manipulating the stocks thus becoming rich and makes his own consultancy company named Growmore. The game becomes so easy for Harshad that he takes credit of the loopholes of the Indian system and starts making enough money.
He is later on in 1990s branded as BSE ka Amitabh Bachchan aka The Big Bull. He changed the whole game, before in India only the senior citizens used to be in stock market but now no more he changed everything, anybody with a right mind for investing can invest in stock markets and can make his destiny. Then later on came a time in his life where he was now the villain as he was involved in 1992 securities scam which was almost went to rupees 4000 crores. The role was portrayed by none other than Pratik Gandhi who is a Gujarati actor shot to fame form the national award winning movie Wrong Side Raju and Hindi movie Loveyatri. In actual life Harshad was very much heavyweight guy while Pratik Gandhi is lean guy but still he pulled the role with real ease. He portrayed how Mehta works his character being very shrewd and arrogant. The character is portrayed as if it is really him. Many other characters like Sucheta Dalal by Shreya Dhanwanthary the journalist who exposed Harshad Mehta and many other characters were all real life except some whose name though have been changed but were portrayed perfectly by the actors. My favourite character was Swami whose real name is Chandraswami most corrupt godman who even used to control the government and many illegal businesses. The Director Hansal Mehta whose research and direction was really solid. The dialogues were really spot on like ‘Risk Hai Toh Ishq Hai’, ‘Jaib Mein money ho toh kundli mein shani hone se kuchh nahi hota yeh meri astrology hai’. The music was really good according to the scene polaying plus the famous intro music by Achint Thakkar is right now most trending.
The series explores several events that happened in Mehta’s life from 1979 working as a jober at BSE to being a stockbroker and making a stockbroking and consultancy firm named Growmore till 1992 where he was charged for securities fraud. From that period of life till 1992 how situation changed in India from Indira Gandhi’s assasination, Rajiv Gandhi becoming PM to his fall and his assasination and also the global recession in 1990 due to the fall of Soviet Union and how India was affected by it due to it’s close ties with that country and how to escape the period we changed our policy drastically from being a socialistic country to rather being capilastic as the globalisation was initiated in 1992 in India and there were many international companies like Cocacola and many other companies entered, the golden period for India. Here there have been shown many loopholes of Indian banks irregularities and lack of procedural inquiries done for giving loans and also the SEBI which powerless and also political pressures form the central government as it has been shown in the film many from the Congress government during that time were involved. The film has not justified Harshad Mehta that he was a righteous person and whatever he did was because of the loopholes that were present, no. They instead justified how the system was and how the system changed after this fraud and also the people who actually escaped the one’s who never got caught and I think are still scott free. To me I will conclude that the web series was really intriguing and thrilling and filled with emotions on different level. To describe this series I will say it is like ‘the desi version of The Wolf Of Wall Street an American movie based on true story of wall street broker Jordan Belfort’.
